Mustangs split week

Buffalo Island Central completed a perfect week with a doubleheader sweep Thursday afternoon over Marked Tree at Monette. The Mustangs (10-3, 8-1 2A-3) shut out the Indians 15-0 in the opener before prevailing 8-6 in the nightcap. BIC crushed Marmaduke 23-0 Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game of BIC's double-dip victory over the Indians, Brandon Towery picked up the win on the mound. Towery (5-2) pitched five innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five batters.

Canon Walling knocked in four runs for the Mustangs. Towery helped his own cause with three RBI while Evans Sanders and Andrew McFarlin picked up a pair of RBI apiece.

McFarlin (3-0) notched the win in the nightcap. The sophomore right hander hurled 5 2/3 innings, surrendering just one run while fanning 12 Indians. BIC put together a six-run sixth inning to secure the victory.

Brandon Towery socked a three-run homer and added a two-run double in BIC's victory at Marmaduke. Bryce Towery struck out six Greyhounds and gave up no runs to earn the win.

BIC travels to Riverside Monday afternoon to face the league leading Rebels with first place on the line. The Mustangs will play host to Rector in another key conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at Monette.

Lady Mustangs

The Lady Mustangs dropped a pair of games in high school softball action, losing Tuesday afternoon 7-1 at Rector before absorbing a 15-0 loss Wednesday afternoon at league leading Marmaduke.

Molly Hart slammed a pair of singles in BIC's defeat at Rector. Jealynn Cates smacked a double while Madison Nowlin had a single. Morgan James scored BIC's only run of the afternoon. Hart picked up BIC's lone hit against Marmaduke.

The Lady Mustangs will host Rector Tuesday afternoon at Monette before closing the week with a pair of games against Riverside. BIC will entertain the Lady Rebels Wednesday afternoon at Monette before traveling to Lake City on Friday.
