Lady Rebels endure tough week on diamond
Riverside fell four times in high school softball action last week. The Lady Rebels lost at Walnut Ridge 16-1 Monday afternoon before being outslugged 14-12 Tuesday at Marked Tree. Marmaduke handed Riverside an 11-0 shutout Thursday afternoon. The Lady Rebels ended the week with a 4-1 loss Friday at Armorel.
The Lady Bobcats scored nine runs in the second inning and closed out the game with a five-run fourth to defeat Riverside. Kayli Womack took the loss against Walnut Ridge, pitching 3 2/3 innings, allowing 16 runs, six earned. Womack gave up 11 hits while striking out three and walking three. Delaney George slapped a pair of singles to lead the Riverside offense. Mallory Felton belted an RBI single while Haven Robertson singled and scored once.
Riverside scored runs in six of the seven innings in Tuesday's matchup against Marked Tree, but gave up an 11-run fifth to the Lady Indians, dropping a wild 14-12 decision. The Lady Rebels out-hit Marked Tree 12-10, but committed five errors on the day.
Carson Smith blasted a pair of triples and drove in four runs while scoring once to pace the Riverside offense. Womack also had a big day at the plate, going 2-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Hannah Shinall laced a pair of singles, scored once and drove in a run while Felton cranked out a pair of singles and scored twice. Lauren Smith also laced a pair of hits and scored two times while Brianna Campbell and McKenna Beach both added singles. George crossed the plate twice for Riverside. Womack absorbed the loss, giving up 14 runs, only three of which were earned. Womack allowed 10 hits, fanned two and issued eight walks.
Marmaduke remained unbeaten on the year, improving to 12-0 overall and 9-0 in league play with their 11-0 win over Riverside on Thursday. Sammi Henry (12-0) got the victory, allowing three hits while striking out eight. Jordan Mays belted a home run and went 3-3 while Tabitha Hyten had a pair of singles and three RBI for the Lady Greyhounds.
Womack suffered the loss, giving up 11 runs, four earned, on eight hits. Lauren Smith, Felton and Beach all singled for Riverside.
Armorel scored two runs in both the first and fifth innings in defeating the Lady Rebels 4-1. The Lady Tigers out-hit Riverside 10-5. Womack was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, on 10 hits. Felton led the lady Rebels at the plate with a single, a double and an RBI. Womack, Carson Smith and Lauren Smith all drilled singles for Riverside.
The Lady Rebels will have a busy week beginning Monday, starting with a road trip to Bay. Riverside will host Cross County in a conference game Tuesday at Lake City. The Lady Rebels will play Buffalo Island Central twice, traveling to Monette Wednesday before hosting the Lady Mustangs Friday at Lake City. In between, Riverside will journey to Rector for a 2A-3 conference game on Thursday.
