Rebels, Lady Rebels post victories on the diamond
Riverside ran its record to 8-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in 2A-3 conference play with a 10-0 shutout of Rector Tuesday afternoon at Lake City.
Larry Tilley was the hitting star for the Rebels, driving in four runs while belting a double and a single and scoring a run. Gavin Stone picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the year. The junior right hander scattered five hits in going the distance, striking out nine batters.
Sophomore Izzy Garcia slammed a double and a single, drove in a run and scored three times. Chandler Tate laced a bases loaded triple and scored once while Charlie McClure doubled and scored a run. Dillon Turner socked a pair of hits and drove in two while Stone helped his self with an RBI single.
Brian Hufty took the loss for the Cougars.
Riverside's conference battle with Buffalo Island Central was washed out Thursday and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Rebels will return to action Monday with a nonconference matchup at Walnut Ridge. Riverside travels to Lepanto to face conference foe East Poinsett County Tuesday afternoon before closing the week with a nonconference game Thursday against Armorel at Lake City.
The Lady Rebel softballers hammered out an 11-0 victory Tuesday afternoon over Rector after falling to Marmaduke 12-0 Monday.
Riverside used an eight-run fourth inning to blow open a close game in their shutout win over Rector. Kayli Womack fired a four-hit whitewash, striking out seven Lady Cougars along the way. Delaney George went 2-3, scored twice and drove in a run. Hannah Shinall also had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored twice. Brianna Campbell belted a three--run triple and scored a run. Mallory Felton raked a two-run double and scored once while Lauren Smith drilled an RBI double and scored a run. Womack had a two-run double and scored a run. Carson Smith singled and scored two runs while Haven Robertson scored once.
Sammi Henry improved to 3-0 on the season to lead undefeated Marmaduke over Riverside. Henry fired a two-hit shutout and also had a pair of hits and two RBI for the Lady Greyhounds. Jordan Mays went 3-4 with three RBI while Natalie Shelton also had a pair of hits for Marmaduke.
Womack took the loss for Riverside, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. Womack fanned four and walked five. George and Carson Smith had the only hits for the Lady Rebels.
Riverside will play at Osceola Monday afternoon before traveling to Lepanto to take on EPC in a 2A-3 conference game on Tuesday.
