Valley Springs knocks out Lady Lions 72-42 in regional opener
Powerhouse Valley Springs opened Wednesday's 3A Regional Tournament with a 15-0 run and went on to steamroll Manila 72-42 in first round action Wednesday night at Yellville-Summit High School. The Lady Tigers held a commanding 28-8 advantage after the opening quarter and took a 47-19 lead into the dressing room at intermission while earning a berth in this week's 3A State Tournament at Jessieville.
Arkansas State University signee Payton Tennison led Valley Springs with 14 points, all coming in the opening half. Ashlynn Taylor and Ashley Henderson added 12 points apiece as 11 Lady Tigers landed in the scoring column. Valley Springs connected on 14-15 free throw attempts and drained seven treys on the night.
Hannah Teague topped Manila with 11 points while Jordyn Wheeler added 10. Seniors Taylor Harmon and Lauren Woody closed out their Lady Lion careers scoring eight points each. Hannah McQueen netted three while Tessa Pannells chipped in two points. Manila made eight of 15 foul shots and canned eight triples.
