Lady Rebels advance to regionals with 55-33 win over BIC
Riverside's Lady Rebels punched their ticket to the regional tournament with a 55-33 victory over archrival Buffalo Island Central in the semifinals of the 2A-3 District Tournament Thursday night at Marked Tree.
The Lady Rebels put three players in double figures, led by Haven Robertson's 14 point performance. Brittney Sain scored 12 points while Bailey Fisher chipped in 10. Hattie Milligan netted six, Carson Smith tallied five, Hannah Shinall contributed four while Madison Black and Mallory Felton pitched in two points apiece.
Molly Hart topped the Lady Mustangs with 10 points. Jona Carmichael scored seven, Heather Sipes had six, Madison Nowlin chipped in four while Blaire Wildy added two points.
The Lady Rebels fell in the semifinals 46-39 to East Poinsett County. The Lady Warriors held an 11-9 edge after the first period before Riverside charged back to grab a 23-16 halftime advantage. EPC outscored the Lady Rebels 9-4 in the third quarter to close to within 27-25 entering the final frame.
The Lady Warriors pulled ahead, 33-30, on a JaLeigha Garrett three pointer, the only triple of the night for EPC with 4:10 left in the game. An offensive stick-back by Krystan Vornes increased the EPC lead to 35-30 at the 3:51 mark. Riverside answered when Sain popped a three pointer from the left corner, followed by Robertson's three point play, giving the Lady Rebels held a 36-35 edge with 2:57 showing on the clock.
Bailey Constant put EPC back on top to stay, hitting a pair of free throws with 2:30 left, and the Lady Warriors closed the game out from the foul line, hitting five of six free throws in the final 40 seconds to advance to the finals against Earle.
Robertson led the Lady Rebels with 10 points. Fisher scored nine, Shinall tallied seven while Sain and Milligan chipped in six points apiece. Smith added one point. Vornes scored a game high 20 points to pace the Lady Warriors.
BIC won its first round game with a 52-38 victory Monday night over host Marked Tree. Hart scored a game high 15 points to lead the Lady Mustangs, who led 12-0 after the first quarter, 31-18 at the half and 42-25 after three periods of play.
Jayla Carter and Shi'Nez Mitchell paced Marked Tree with 13 points each.
Riverside will open regional tournament play Wednesday night at Sloan Hendrix High School in Imboden. The Lady Rebels will face number one seed Salem. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
