Marmaduke races past Lady Rebels 51-31
Marmaduke jumped to a 9-0 lead and never looked back as the Lady Greyhounds trounced Riverside 51-31 Thursday night at Marmaduke.
Tabitha Hyten's three pointer at the 4:00 mark of the opening quarter capped off an early 9-0 Lady Greyhound run before Hattie Milligan dropped in a pair of free throws for Riverside's first points of the game. Marmaduke increased its lead to 13-2 after Abby Meredith drove for two of her game high 19 points. Riverside battled back and closed to within 13-9 on a Haven Robertson bucket and a three pointer from Bailey Fisher, but a Meredith basket and a three pointer by Kelsey McCoy gave the Lady Greyhounds an 18-9 lead after the first break.
Back to back triples midway through the second quarter by Jordan Mays and McCoy gave Marmaduke a commanding 29-11 lead. The Lady Greyhounds closed the half ahead 31-15.
Marmaduke continued to build its lead in the third quarter, holding Riverside to only two Robertson free throws. Brianna Hood closed out the period with back to back treys, giving the Lady Greyhounds a 40-17 lead heading into the final frame.
McCoy and Mays scored nine points apiece to back Meredith's big scoring night.
Fisher paced the Lady Rebels with nine points while Robertson and Milligan chipped in eight points apiece. Brittany Sain scored four while Hannah Shinall added two.
Riverside claimed the junior high game 37-29. Lotti Hoffman paced the Lady Rebels with 14 points while Mallory Felton added 10. Lexi Hall scored five, Briley Douglas tallied four, Hailey Carr chipped in three while Carmen Campbell added one point.
Anna Meredith and Natalie Shelton led the Lady Greyhounds with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Riverside fell 58-47 Monday night at East Poinsett County, despite Robertson's 25 point effort. The Lady Warriors held a slim 15-12 lead after the first period before Riverside rallied to take a 25-24 edge into the dressing room at the half. EPC outscored the Lady Rebels 20-5 in the third quarter to take a 44-30 bulge into the final stanza.
Fisher joined Robertson in double figures with 14 points. Sain had four, Carson Smith netted three while Milligan chipped in one point.
Kyrstan Vornes scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead EPC. Becca Bishop netted 11 while Markiya Ward added 10.
EPC squeezed past Riverside 40-39 in junior high action. Hoffman and Douglas led the Lady Rebels with 12 points each. Felton scored eight while Grace Anne Puckett added seven.
The Lady Rebels return to the hard court Tuesday night, hosting Buffalo Island Central in 2A-3 conference play. Riverside will close the week with a nonconference game against Walnut Ridge Thursday night at Lake City.
