Top seeded Bay storms past Lady Mustangs 67-42
Bay rolled to its 17th straight victory, dominating Buffalo Island Central 67-42 in the quarterfinals of the NEA Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
The Lady Yellowjackets raced to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 34-13 advantage at the half. Bay increased its margin to 53-28 after three quarters and coasted into the semifinals.
The top seeded Yellowjackets, now 20-2 on the season, placed four players in double digits, led by senior Katie Ferguson's 19 points. Three freshmen also landed in double figures, including Mallory Hartley, Abby Frisby and Whitlee Layne, who scored 18, 12 and 11 points respectively.
BIC was led by Blaire Wildy who scored 11 points. Madison Nowlin and Molly Hart pitched in eight points each, Holly Stockton tallied five, Heather Sipes netted four while Jona Carmichael, Lexi Walls and Caslyn Walls added two points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs will return to action Jan. 4, when they take on Rector in a 2A-3 conference matchup on the road. BIC will travel to Earle Thursday, Jan. 7, to take on the Lady Bulldogs.
