Riverside takes out Osceola in NEA first round

Lady Rebel Bailey Fisher sets to launch a three pointer in first round NEA Tournament action. The freshman drained four treys to help lead Riverside to a 55-32 victory over Osceola.

Lady Blazers bounce Riverside from NEA

Bailey Fisher flipped in four second quarter three pointers, igniting Riverside to a 55-32 victory over Osceola in first round action of the NEA Tournament Monday morning at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.

The Lady Rebels trailed 14-13 early in the second quarter before Fisher buried back to back treys, giving the Lady Rebels the lead for good. Haven Robertson followed with an inside bucket before Fisher banged home two more triples to close out the quarter, giving Riverside a 29-18 halftime advantage.

Robertson slashed through the Lady Seminole defense, scoring seven more points in the third quarter, helping the Lady Rebels build a 40-27 lead after three periods of play.

Riverside pulled away in the final frame and coasted into the second round with a 32 point victory.

Robertson scored a game high 20 points to lead the Lady Rebels while Fisher pumped in 19 more. Skylar Kauke and Brittany Sain netted five points apiece, Hannah Shinall tallied four while Hattie Milligan chipped in two points. Riverside connected on six of eight free throws and drained six three pointers.

Akeyla Barksdale led Osceola with 11 points while Alexis Hobson added 10.

Riverside's NEA Tournament run ended in Saturday's quarterfinal with a 42-35 loss to second seeded Valley View.

The Lady Blazers height advantage proved too much as the Lady Rebels fell to 13-7 on the season. Valley View jumped to a 14-9 lead after the first quarter, thanks to three treys from Rachel Wilson. The Lady Blazers increased their advantage to 23-15 at the half.

Riverside trailed by 11 late in the third quarter, but battled back when Sain drained a three pointer, followed by a pair of Robertson free throws, slicing the Valley View lead to 28-22 after three periods of play.

The Lady Blazers went on a 10-2 run to begin the fourth quarter. Lauren Hathcock's bucket began the Valley View surge before Molly Poe scored seven of the next eight Lady Blazer points, giving Valley View a 38-24 advantage.

Riverside made one last charge, outscoring Valley View 9-1 to trim the Lady Blazer lead to 39-33, but that was as close as the Lady Rebels would get.

Robertson led Riverside with nine points while Carson Smith added eight points and five rebounds.

Valley View (6-6), got 13 points and seven boards from Wilson while Poe chipped in 10 points and pulled down eight caroms.
