Mustangs sweep in Pangburn Classic
Buffalo Island Central swept a pair of games in the Pangburn Classic, defeating Beebe 68-57 on Friday night before downing Rose Bud 67-52 Saturday.
Travon Cobb scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out seven assists to lead the Mustangs past Beebe. Trey DePriest tallied 19, Cory Turner added 11 while Andrew McFarlin handed out seven assists.
BIC led 18-9 after the first period, 38-26 at the half and 58-45 entering the final frame.
The Mustangs (9-5) got 30 points from Cobb in their victory over Rose Bud. DePriest and Dax Hurst chipped in 13 points apiece.
BIC held a 19-3 lead after the first period before taking a 38-20 advantage into the dressing room at intermission. The Mustangs held a 48-33 lead after three periods of play.
BIC began the week with a key 2A-3 conference matchup at Marked Tree. The Indians came away with a 64-51 victory behind D'Angelo Griffin and LaQuentin Miles, who led Marked Tree with 20 and 17 points respectively. The Indians held a 20-17 lead after the first quarter before taking a 26-25 edge into halftime. Marked Tree outscored BIC 14-6 in the third period to grab a 40-31 lead heading into the final frame.
Cobb led BIC with a game high 22 points. Depriest scored 10, Hurst had eight, McFarlin netted seven while Turner and Chayse Carmichael added two points apiece.
BIC will open NEA Tournament play Monday, Dec. 21, against Maynard. A Mustang victory will set them up with a Dec. 28 quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Marked Tree and Rector.
