Mustangs gain pair of conference wins
Buffalo Island Central notched a pair of 2A-3 conference victories last week, defeating East Poinsett County 56-54 Tuesday night in Lepanto before stampeding past Marmaduke 72-37 Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
BIC (7-4 4-1 2A-3) got 30 points from Travon Cobb in Friday night's win over the Greyhounds. Cory Turner also hit double digits, scoring 11 points.
The Mustangs claimed the junior high game 52-18.
BIC built a double digit lead before holding off a furious EPC comeback in Tuesday night's win over the Warriors. Dax Hurst scorched the nets, hitting eight three pointers while leading the Mustangs with 24 points. Cobb had 11 points and nine boards while Andrew McFarlin and Trey DePriest added nine and eight points respectively. The Mustangs finished with 10 treys on the night.
Xzavier Reed paced the Warriors with 13 points while Clay Malone added 10.
EPC took the junior high contest over BIC, winning a 40-38 thriller in overtime.
The Mustangs return to the hard court Tuesday night with a key 2A-3 conference matchup at Marked Tree. BIC will travel to Pangburn for the Classic Friday and Saturday. BIC will open play in the NEA Tournament Monday, Dec. 21, against Maynard. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center at Arkansas State University.
