Lady Rebels rally past BIC 36-22

Riverside overcame a sluggish first half to rally past Buffalo Island Central 36-22 in senior girls basketball action Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.

Both teams had trouble finding the basket as the Lady Rebels held a 9-5 lead after the first quarter, thanks to three pointers by Haven Robertson and Carson Smith. But the Lady Mustangs battled back, outscoring Riverside 8-3 in the second period, taking a 13-12 edge into the dressing room at the half on a Molly Hart bucket.

The Lady Rebels fell behind 17-12 after baskets from Jona Carmichael and Madison Nowlin to begin the third period. Riverside's Bailey Fisher popped a three pointer to close the gap to two, and when Hattie Milligan converted a three point play, the Lady Rebels found themselves up 18-17 with 3:56 left in the third quarter.

Blaire Wildy dropped in a free throw to tie the game 18-18, but Fisher drilled a three pointer to close the quarter, putting Riverside ahead 21-18.

Fisher began the final frame with a three point play to increase Riverside's lead to 26-20, and the Rebel defense held BIC to just one basket the rest of the way as the Lady Rebels closed out the win.

Fisher paced Riverside with 12 points. Robertson scored eight, Milligan had seven, Skylar Kauke tallied five while Smith chipped in four. The Lady Rebels made seven of 11 foul shots and drained four three pointers.

Nowlin and Holly Stockton led the Lady Mustangs with six points each. Hart and Wildy pitched in four points apiece while Carmichael added two points.

In junior high action, BIC slipped past Riverside 31-24. Morgan James led the Lady Mustangs with 12 points. Brianna Lambert tallied seven, Haddyn Hurst contributed six, Hanah Carle pitched in four while Vicky Esparza contributed two points.

Mallory Felton led Riverside with 10 points while Grace Ann Pucket added eight. Briley Douglas, Carmen Campbell and Hailey Carr added two points apiece.

Riverside began the week, losing a 54-47 decision to Marmaduke. Jordan Mays scored a game high 24 points to pace the Lady Greyhounds. Kauke and Fisher led Riverside with 19 points apiece. Smith scored seven, Milligan netted four, Robertson had three while Brittany Sain chipped in two.

BIC took a 44-35 victory Monday night over Osceola. Nowlin paced the Lady Mustangs with 16 points while Hart added 12. Heather Sipes scored eight, Wildy tallied four while Stockton and Carmichael added two points apiece.

BIC also defeated Osceola 41-31 in junior girls action. Hurst led the Lady Mustangs with 13 while Lambert and James chipped in nine points apiece. Jealynn Cates scored six while Carle added four.

Lady Lions

Manila split a pair of nonconference games, defeating Ridgefield Christian 57-37 Monday night in Jonesboro before dropping a 76-37 decision Thursday night at home.

Hannah Teague scored 15 points to pace the Lady Lions past Ridgefield Christian while Taylor Harmon tallied 14 in Manila's loss to Bay.
