Mustangs roundballers open season with win over Pangburn
Newcomer Travon Cobb scored 19 points and snared nine rebounds to spark Buffalo Island Central to a 66-32 season opening victory in senior boys basketball action Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette. Trey DePriest also hit double digits, pouring in 18 points, while Cory Turner pulled down nine rebounds.
BIC jumped to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and pulled away to a 34-12 advantage at the half. The Mustangs took a 30 point lead, 54-24, into the fourth quarter.
In junior high action, Noah Teeter and Kaleb Dublin pitched in 12 points apiece to lead the Mustangs to a 57-27 win over Pangburn.
In girls action, the Lady Mustangs picked up their first win of the season with a 49-39 win over Armorel Monday night on the road. Molly Hart led the Lady Mustangs with 20 points and seven boards. Blaire Wildy chipped in 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds for BIC. Aryielle Appleton topped the Lady Tigers with 13 points.
In junior high action, BIC powered past the Lady Tigers 31-8. Morgan James and Hannah Carle topped BIC with 10 points apiece. Haddyn Hurst came away with 11 steals on the night.
BIC opened its home season Friday night and dropped a 53-37 decision to Pangburn. Bliss Davis and Tylar Vernon paced Pangburn with 11 points apiece. Heather Sipes led the Lady Mustangs with 10 points and nine rebounds while Wildy added eight points.
The Lady Mustangs finished the week with a 42-19 win over Abundant Life Saturday night at Monette. BIC (2-2) was led by Heather Sipes and Blaire Wildy, who scored 13 points apiece. Sipes added six boards and four assists while Wildy grabbed nine rebounds.
In junior high action, BIC improved to 5-2 with a 47-22 win over Abundant Life. Brianna Lambert paced the Mustangs with 15 points. Morgan James scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds while Haddyn Hurst had nine points, six steals and five assists.
The Lady Mustangs will return to play Monday night when they host Westside. BIC will open 2A-3 conference play Thursday night against defending state champion Marmaduke at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette
