Riverside teams gain victories on hardcourt
Riverside picked up a pair of victories in high school basketball action last week. The Rebels improved to 3-2 on the season, avenging an earlier season loss to Armorel by defeating the Tigers 59-51 Friday night on the road. Riverside began the week with a 62-30 thrashing of Ridgefield Christian Tuesday night at Lake City.
Riverside got a team high 23 point performance from Grant Mason in the Rebels' win over Armorel. Gavin Stone pumped in 18 more for the Rebels, who led 5-2 after the first quarter, 24-13 at the half and 38-28 after three periods of play. Nash Winters scored a game high 26 points to lead the Tigers.
Stone paced the Rebels with 19 points in Riverside's win over Ridgefield. Luke Baker added 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Rebels, who led 16-10 after the opening quarter, 39-14 at the half and 57-21 entering the final frame.
In junior high action, the Rebels downed Armorel 46-35 to move to 4-2 on the year. Steven Stroud scored a game high 22 points to top Riverside while Luttrell Brown chipped in 14 more. Stroud also produced a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing nine boards in Riverside's 48-21 win over Ridgefield Christian. Luttrell Brown pitched in 14.
In girls action, Riverside moved to 3-1 on the season with a 54-36 victory at Armorel. Skyler Kauke scored a game high 23 points to lead the Lady Rebels. Kauke hit nine of 10 field goals and made all five of her charity tosses on the night. The senior forward also added three steals and three assists. Bailey Fisher chipped in 13 for Riverside. Ayrielle Appleton led the Lady Tigers with 11 points.
In junior high action, Riverside stormed past Armorel 49-19. Mallory Fenton led the Lady Rebels with 15 points as 10 Riverside players hit the scoring column.
