Edgar E. Byrd (Ed) of Long Beach and Pasadena, Calif., died peacefully at home in Pasadena on Oct. 6, 2015, at the age of 100. He was surrounded by his family and long-time "sweetheart," Ms. Sally Ross of Pasadena. Ed was born in Leachville on April 30, 1915.

After two stints in the Navy as a medic, Ed worked as an emergency room RN surgical assistant. After obtaining a BS in Biology/Education from USC and a subsequent law degree from Glendale College of Law, he worked as a legal investigator for The LA Department of Water & Power for 50 years, before retiring. He was always interested in science and often attended lectures at Cal Tech. He was a lover of nature and travel.
