Buffalo Island Museum in Monette had eight new ceiling fans installed using grant funds. Committee members expressed their appreciation to the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Department of Arkansas Heritage for awarding the grant to install replacement ceiling fans for exhibit areas and the reference room in the museum housed in the historic bank building built in 1918.

Diana Sanders, project chairman, said it took a couple of months to write the grant. The museum committee holds a bake sale once a year to help with expenses.

"We appreciate the grant and the support from local residents," Sanders said. "We will use remaining grant money to help with utilities. The City of Monette, as most small towns, has a limited amount of funds and can only afford to pay a portion of the operating costs for the museum. We appreciate all help. It is our goal to preserve the building and collections for future generations."

The ceiling fans were purchased locally and the committee chose a local contractor for installation.

The museum is open from 1-4 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. To make an appointment at other times call City Hall at (870) 486-2000.
