Bay tops Riverside in boys and girls basketball action

Bay rallied from a five point halftime deficit, outscoring Riverside 47-26 in the second half to claim a 77-61 come-from-behind victory over the Rebels Tuesday night at Lake City.

Yellowjacket Taylor Layne caught fire in the final two quarters, drilling seven treys, to spark the Bay rally. Layne finished with a game high 29 points while teammates Jonathan Crain and Robert McFadden added 17 and 10 points respectively. The 'Jackets went to the free throw stripe 30 times, connecting on 21.

Luke Baker topped Riverside with 19 points while Gavin Stone added 17 more. Braden Overman tallied nine, Grant Mason had eight, Chris Sain and Landon Moyer tallied three points apiece while Gannon Crews chipped in two. The Rebels connected on 17-21 free throws and nailed eight three pointers on the night.

Bay also took the junior high contest with a 47-38 victory. The Yellowjackets bolted to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and held a 25-19 advantage at the half. Bay increased its margin to 32-24 after three periods of play.

Layne Austin led the 'Jackets with 15 points while Dax Gibson added 11.

Steven Stroud led the Rebels with a game high 18 points while Luttrell Brown added 15. D.J. Bowers and Marquis Nelson scored two points apiece while Hunter Swaim added one.

Bay got a combined 44 points from Katie Ferguson and Whitlee Layne, leading the Lady Yellowjackets to a dominating 59-38 win over Riverside Monday night at Bay. Ferguson finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and canning four three pointers. Layne also pumped in 22 points while drilling three treys on the evening. Bailey Bowers tallied eight points, Abby Frisbee chipped in five while Sydney Higgins finished with two.

Skyler Kauke led the Lady Rebels with 12 points while Haven Robertson also hit double digits, scoring 10. Bailey Fisher finished with six, Carson Smith chipped in four while Brittany Sain and Hattie Milligan added three points apiece.

In junior high action, Riverside slipped past Bay 23-18. Grace Ann Puckett and Lotti Hoffman led the Lady Rebels with eight points apiece. Autumn Courtney scored three while Briley Douglas and Hailey Carr added two points each.

Olivia Ferguson led the Lady Jackets with 11 points.
