Rebel teams open 2015-2016 basketball season
Riverside opened the 2015-2016 basketball season with a 60-35 victory over Hillcrest in the Bad Boy Mowers Classic Thursday night at Izard County Consolidated in Brockwell.
Luke Baker pumped in a team high 17 points while Gavin Stone finished with nine points and six assists to lead the Rebels. Jon Milligan snared a team high six rebounds for Riverside.
Dyllan Nunnally led the Screamin' Eagles with 17 points while Tyson Durham pitched in 12.
Riverside's Lady Rebels also got off to a good start on the season with a 53-33 victory over Hillcrest. Freshman Bailey Fisher topped the Lady Rebels in scoring with 17 points while Haven Robertson pitched in 15 more.
Armorel spoiled Riverside's home opener when Matt Wyatt flipped in an eight-footer with just six seconds showing on the clock to lift the Tigers to a come from behind 49-48 victory Friday night at Lake City.
Wyatt scored a game high 16 points to lead Armorel while Trevon Tate and Nash Winters chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively. Armorel finished 16-26 at the free throw stripe.
Stone led the Rebels with 15 points and eight assists while Baker contributed 14. Riverside made 6-9 foul shots on the night.
In junior boys action, Riverside drilled the Tigers 49-14. Steven Stroud and Luttrell Brown paced the Rebels with 11 and 10 points respectively.
In girls play, Riverside blasted the Lady Tigers 65-25. Robertson paced the Lady Rebels with 17 points while Carson Smith tallied 10.
In junior girls action, Riverside rolled past Armorel 47-11.
