Buffalo Island Central School Board elects officers

Darrin McFall was elected to serve as president of the Buffalo Island Central School Board for the 2015-2016 school year at the Thursday, Oct. 15 meeting. Other officers elected were Scott Colbert, vice president and Jason Stewart, secretary.

Building principals Dr. Kima Stewart, west elementary; Mark Hurst, junior high; and Randy Rose, senior high, gave reports. Nicole Stewart, east elementary, will present her report at the November meeting.

The board congratulated teacher Jae Glass for being chosen to receive the ACTELA's Early Educator ELA Teacher Award for 2015. They also recognized Dax Hurst, Kensie Walker and Drew McFall for having been chosen for the SISTA Project through the University of Arkansas. The students will receive $1,000 each for college textbooks.

The board voted unanimously to submit an "application for a Permit to Issue Bonds," with related documents, for $11,420,000 in Refunding and Construction Bonds to the State Department of Education and to employ First Security Beardsley Public Finance as Fiscal Agent.

The millage vote was set for Jan. 12, 2016 to ask patrons for a .007 mill increase to construct a new K-6 elementary school building at Leachville and a new 7-12 school built at Monette. The millage was reduced from .009 to .007 because the auditorium will be removed from the plans.

The board voted unanimously to hire Diana Loredo for the position of cook at the west elementary cafeteria.

Board members voted to retire the list of fixed assets of 2014-2015 as presented.
