Windsock lit at Manila Airport

Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Flying into the Manila Municipal Airport is safer for night landing thanks to a lit windsock, placed at the north end of the airport property. Members of the Pilot's Association expressed their appreciation to Kody Gallent and Mississippi County Electric Co-op for installing the post and power to provide the lighting.

Members of the association also thanked Henry Ford, Manila utility supervisor, Joe Chipman and other Manila workers for the trenching and assistance in getting the windsock up and preparation work for the lighting.

"This will help pilots coming in at night landing to the south," Woody Townsend, member of the Pilots Association, said. "Pilots will get an immediate wind reading before touchdown. It will give them the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments needed for a safe landing."
