DePriest leads Mustangs to 2A-3 District Golf Championship
Buffalo Island Central walked away with the 2A-3 District Golf Championship, shooting a team score of 228 to outdistance second place Salem by a whopping 24 shots Monday afternoon at the Turkey Mountain Golf Club in Horseshoe Bend.
Junior Trey DePriest fired a two under par 71 to take medalist honors for the Mustangs. Dax Hurst carded a 78 while Miles Gifford posted a 79 in the play four, count three, format. Andrew McFarlin also competed for BIC, and finished his round with an 81. All four Mustang golfers qualify for the 2A state tournament.
Riverside finished fourth behind third place Marmaduke with a 305 team score. Larry Tilley paced the Rebels with a round of 94. Cannon Smith carded a 104 while Caden Barrett posted a 107. Tilley's 94 landed him a spot in the 2A State Tournament Oct. 6 at the Holiday Island Golf Course in Eureka Springs.
Rector's Kade Scott fired an even par 73 to gain runner-up honors, two shots back of DePriest.
Lady Mustang Ashley Field posted a nine-hole score of 48 to take medalist honors in girls play. Field teamed with Jona Carmichael, who shot a 54, and Kensie Walker, who posted a 60, helping BIC capture the team title with a score of162. All three Lady Mustangs qualify for the 2A state tournament Sept. 29 at the Holiday Island Golf Course in Eureka Springs.
Riverside players Brittney Ditto and Grace Wilson shot rounds of 61 and 69 respectively to also qualify for state tournament play.
BIC participated in the Hurricane Classic at the Jonesboro Country Club Saturday, Sept. 19. The host Hurricane took the team title, shooting a seven over par 295. The Mustangs came in eighth with a four man total of 344.
Trey DePriest fired a three over 75 and was named to the All-Tournament team. Dax Hurst carded an 86, Miles Gifford posted a 90 while Andrew McFarlin came in with a 93.
