Mustang golfers defeat four others in warm up for District Tournament

Buffalo Island Central warmed up for this week's 2A-3 District Golf Tournament, defeating four other schools Monday afternoon at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila.

The Mustangs fired a winning tally of 117, led by medalist Dax Hurst, who carded an even par round of 36. Miles Gifford shot a two over 38 while Andrew McFarlin followed with a round of 44.

Runner-up Manila shot a team score of 133. Joel Burrow topped the Lions with a five over par 41. Justin Bratton came home with a round of 44 while Brock Birmingham shot a 48.

Riverside finished third with a 150 team score. Larry Tilley paced the Rebels with a round of 43. Caden Barrett carded a 51 while Cannon Smith completed his round with a 56.

In girls plays, BIC shot a team score of 167 to finish 27 shots better than runner-up Rivercrest. Jona Carmichael fired a 53 to take medalist honors for the Lady Mustangs. Ashley Field shot a 55 while Kensie Walker carded a 59.

Brittney Ditto fired a 56 to lead Riverside while Grace Wilson finished with a 67 for the Lady Rebels. Loren Davison paced Manila with a 61 while Allie Edwards shot a 68 for the Lady Lions.

BIC and Riverside will begin district tournament play Monday at the Turkey Mountain Golf Club in Horseshoe Bend.
