Manila Lions plan annual chili cook-off and 5K run

Manila Lions Club discussed the upcoming Big Lake Chili Cook-off at the regular meeting held at noon Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The chili cook-off event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3. This will mark the 29th annual chili cook-off sponsored by the Manila Lions Club and the fourth annual Chili Pepper 5K run. The run will begin a 8 a.m., also on Oct. 3.

Fee for the chili cooking teams is $20. Craft booth fee is $30.

There will be judging and prizes for the chili teams. In the senior division prizes will include $500 for first place; $300 for second place; and $200 for third place. In the junior division prizes will be $300 for first place; $200 for second place and $100 for third place.

Lion Tony Crowell, chairman for the 5K run, said participants will be able to sign up for the race online, racesonline.com, or the morning of the run. Proceeds from the run go for scholarships.

Chili teams will have their chili ready by mid morning. The Lions have chili bowls for $5 giving everyone the opportunity to sample from all of the chili booths and vote for people's choice.

Entertainment will be held at the bandstand.
