The first annual Howard Reeves Memorial Golf Tournament was held July 18-19 at Turkey Mountain Golf Course at Horseshoe Bend. The proceeds from the tournament will provide scholarships to graduates from three high schools.

Family members of Mr. Reeves were pleased to present the first three scholarships to Ryan Stuck, Buffalo Island Central; Madison Stracener, Izard County Consolidated (ICC); and Alex Richard, Manila.

Mr. Reeves, a longtime Monette businessman, loved golf and was an honorary lifetime member of Big Lake Country Club.

Mr. Reeves passed away April 10.

"We appreciate our corporate sponsor, Barton Lumber Co., and all of our sponsors and participants for supporting the tournament which will help young people further their education," Michael Stracener, grandson of Mr. Reeves, said.

Each recipient was awarded $700.

Ryan plans to go to the University of Central Arkansas; Madison plans to go to Ozarka College at Melbourne; and Alex plans to attend Arkansas State University.
