Riverside gets ready for new school year

In its regular meeting Thursday, July 9, the Riverside School Board approved milk and bread bids along with the purchase of a new bus in prepartion for the new school year.

After approving both the minutes of the its June 1 and June 5 meetings, the board approved the finacial statements for June. Riverside Superintendent, Tommy Knight, presented the board with milk bids for the 2015-2016 school year. The board unanimously approved Turner Dairy's bid. Knight also presented bread bids with the board unanimously approving Bimbo Bread's bid for the new school year.

Board members also approved a list of school choice applications before moving on to personnel matters. The resignations of Brandi Hinton and Buster Campbell were accepted unanimously. Also approved unanimously was the hire of Danielle Busby and Candace Cook as teachers at East; Gayle Ramsey as paraprofessional at East; Brani Bowman as paraprofessional at West; and Amy Privet and Cathy Roberson as custodians at East. The board approved reassigning Ben Hogard from assistant baseball coach to head baseball coach. The Riverside School District is taking applications for boys head basketball/PE coach. Board member Mike Brickell made a motion to purchase a 71 passenger Blue Bird bus from Central States Bus at a cost of $88,895. That motion was passed unanimously. Board member Mike Brown made a motion to transfer $131,811.80 from the operating fund to the building fund. That motion was seconded by board member Ricky Austin and approved unanimously.
