Winford Doyle Pyland, 88, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Monette Manor.

He was born May 28, 1927, in Monette to the late Jim Pyland and Pearl Ward Pyland. He served in the U.S. Army, came home and worked as a farmer until 1955, when he left to work for General Motors in Flint, Mich. Mr. Pyland retired in 1986 and immediately moved back to Monette. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Monette American Legion Post 136. He enjoyed gardening and was a very good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Pyland of Lake City; five children, David Pyland (Deb), Lenny Pyland (Kandi), Shirley Compton (Gary), Beth Richard (Les) and Nancy Pyland, all of Flint, Mich.; six grandchildren, Eric, Lucky, Brent, Amber, Nicole and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; longtime special friend of the family, Teri Lee Fritcher, and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, J.H. Pyland, V.L. Pyland and Chester Pyland.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday June 17, at Monette First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Monette Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

The family received friends from noon until time of service at the church.
