BIC HARDBALLERS FALL TO MARKED TREE

Lady Mustangs advance to district finals

Buffalo Island Central's Lady Mustangs advanced to the finals of the 2A-3 District Softball Tournament with a 10-0 shutout victory over East Poinsett County Saturday afternoon at Monette.

Lexie Ray picked up the win, going six innings, allowing only two hits while fanning four Lady Warriors. Karoline Thomas legged out a pair of triples and added a single to lead the BIC offensive onslaught. Thomas also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Molly Hart cracked a triple and added a pair of singles while scoring a run.

Catherine Colbert singled twice, scored three times and added an RBI. Kelsey Strickland delivered an RBI double while Heather Sipes and Hannah Poe clubbed RBI singles. Madison Greathouse scored a pair of runs and picked up an RBI while Bailey Owens also drove in a run.

The Lady Mustangs will face off against Marmaduke, the regular season conference champion, in Monday afternoon's district title game. The Lady Greyhounds clinched the 2A-3 league title with an 11-5 win over BIC Monday afternoon at Marmaduke.

Sammi Henry picked up the win for the Lady Greyhounds. Tabitha Hyten led Marmaduke at the plate with a double, a triple and four RBI.

Catherine Colbert singled twice and scored a pair of runs. Karoline Thomas singled and crossed the plate three times while Kelsey Strickland blasted a double and drove in a pair of runs to highlight BIC's offense.

The Lady Mustangs closed the regular season with a 6-4 victory over Armorel Tuesday at Monette. Madison Greathouse went the distance to earn the win, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five. Kelsey Strickland and Bailey Owens led BIC at the plate, finishing 2-3 with two runs batted in apiece.

2A-3 District Baseball Tournament

BIC scored five runs in the last two innings, but fell one run shy as Marked Tree held on for an 8-7 victory over the Mustangs in the first round of the 2A-3 District Baseball Tournament Thursday night at Monette. The loss ended BIC's season and advanced Marked Tree to this week's regional tournament at Tuckerman.

The Indians scored two runs in the first and added two more in the second inning to grab a 6-0 lead. The Mustangs countered, scoring two runs of their own in the third. Marked Tree answered with a pair of runs in the fourth to take an 8-2 advantage. BIC fought back, plating three runs in the sixth inning. Chayse Carmichael hammered a two-run double. Carmichael also stole home for BIC's third run of the inning. The Mustangs tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh.

Branden Towery singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI. Andrew McFarlin singled twice and scored two runs. Austin Pike and Brady Clark had two hits apiece and scored one run each. Evan Sanders had an RBI single to round out the BIC offense.

Pike took the loss, working an inning and a third, giving up six runs on four hits. Pike fanned two and walked three. McFarlin pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs and two hits to go along with four strikeouts and three walks. Towery worked two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while whiffing three and issuing one base on balls.

The Mustangs closed out the regular season Monday afternoon, dropping an 8-5 decision to the Indians. Marked Tree trailed 5-4 entering the top of the seventh inning but scored four times for the come from behind win.

McFarlin took the loss, working one inning, allowing four earned runs on four hits. Towery pitched the first six innings, giving up three earned runs and five hits. Towery fanned five Marked Tree batters and issued four walks.

Towery led the Mustangs at the plate, belting an RBI double in the second before slugging a two-run homer in the fourth. McFarlin went 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Canon Walling had a pair of hits and scored once while Chayse Carmichael added a single and a run scored. Alan Carmichael produced an RBI while Clark scored a run.
