Riverside Baseball, Softball Roundup
Riverside defeated Bay and Marmaduke before losing a heartbreaking extra inning contest to close out the week Thursday at Brookland.
Rebel pitcher Gavin Stone earned a victory in his first start of the season in Riverside's 10-2 win Tuesday afternoon at Bay. Stone allowed three hits and two runs while walking five and fanning nine Yellowjackets.
Kollin Stone aided his brother's pitching performance, slamming three doubles while driving in a pair of runs and stealing three bases. Izzy Garcia blasted a homerun and a single and drove in two runs. Larry Tilley had a pair of hits while Matthew Fraser and Luke Baker both added RBI singles.
Kollin Stone fired five shutout innings to pick up the win in Riverside's 13-0 shutout Wednesday afternoon at Marmaduke. Stone (6-0) gave up just one hit while fanning 13 Greyhounds. Stone issued one walk on the day.
Gavin Stone finished 3-4 with three RBI and two stolen bases to lead the Rebel offense. Garcia had two hits and three RBI while Devon Austin singled, doubled and drove in two runs.
Riverside took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning in the Rebel's nonconference game Thursday afternoon at Brookland. The Bearcats rallied, scoring three runs to send the game into extra innings.
Dillon Turner absorbed the loss for Riverside, who dropped to 15-3 on the year. The freshman right hander gave up three hits in two innings of work, including no earned runs. Tilley got the start, working the first seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Tilley fanned four and walked one.
Kollin Stone went 2-3 with an RBI while Baker added an RBI single.
The Lady Rebel softball team suffered a pair of doubleheader losses last week. Riverside was swept Monday afternoon by Rector, losing the opener 6-1 before dropping the nightcap 18-6.
Riverside lost their second twin-bill of the week Tuesday afternoon at Marmaduke. The Lady Rebels fell 15-0 in the first game before being whitewashed 4-0 in the second contest.
