Marmaduke grabs conference lead with 5-1 win over Lady Mustangs
Marmaduke rode the pitching of Sammi Henry and knocked Buffalo Island Central from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 5-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Monette.
Both teams entered the day undefeated in 2A-3 conference play. The Lady Greyhounds took advantage of four costly BIC errors to push their record to 7-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.
Henry helped herself at the plate with a pair of singles and an RBI while Jordan Mays cracked three singles and scored three times. Marmaduke also got hits from Bailey Bridges, Tabitha Hyten and April Kennedy.
The Lady Mustangs got their only run of the game when Karoline Thomas jacked a solo homer. Madison Greathouse saw her record drop to 6-1 on the year despite pitching a complete game. Greathouse allowed five runs, only one earned. The senior right hander gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out a pair.
BIC bounced back Thursday afternoon with a 10-0 shutout of Rector. The Lady Mustangs rode the hitting and pitching of Greathouse to improve to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in 2A-3 conference play.
Greathouse earned the win, pitching five innings, striking out six, while giving up just two hits. Greathouse also singled, tripled and drove in four runs on the day. Karoline Thomas singled, tripled and drove in a run. Kelsey Strickland had two singles and an RBI while Molly Hart was a perfect 3-3 with two runs batted in.
The Lady Mustangs began the week with an 11-1 trouncing of East Poinsett County Monday afternoon at Monette.
Greathouse earned the victory, pitching five innings, allowing one run and two hits. Thomas whacked a pair of doubles and added a single while scoring three runs. Strickland doubled twice and drove in three while Lexie Ray finished 2-4 including a double.
