Sanders delivers game winning hit to lead BIC past Marked Tree

Evan Sanders drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to propel Buffalo Island Central to a 5-3 victory over Marked Tree in 2A-3 conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Marked Tree.

The two teams entered the sixth inning tied 3-3 before Sanders delivered what proved to be the game winner. BIC took a 3-0 lead after the third inning before Marked Tree tied the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Mustangs added an insurance run after Sanders put BIC on top.

BIC out-hit the Indians 11-6 and took advantage of five Marked Tree errors.

Sanders completed the day, going 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Andrew McFarlin went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Alan Carmichael laced three singles. Brady Clark had an RBI single and scored once, Austin Pike singled and crossed the plate twice while Brandon Towery added an RBI.

McFarlin earned the win, going seven innings while scattering six hits. The freshman right hander gave up three runs, all earned, while striking out five and walking five.

BIC began the week, dropping a 7-5 decision Monday afternoon to Rector. The Mustangs held a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning, before Rector scored three runs to even the game 4-4. BIC picked up a run in the top of the sixth to take a brief 5-4 edge, but the Cougars responded with another three-spot in the bottom of the inning to pull out the victory.

Lawson Ford smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs while Garrett Buck also had a pair of hits to pace the Rector offense. Sam Westbrook picked up the win in relief for the Cougars.

Chayse Carmichael suffered the loss in relief of starter Austin Pike, pitching one inning, allowing two hits and three unearned runs. Carmichael struck out two and walked a batter. Pike went five innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs while striking out four and walking three.

Pike led the Mustangs at the plate, going 2-4, including a triple, while scoring two runs. Clark had a two-run single and scored once, Dax Hurst had an RBI single while Sanders singled and scored a run. Chayse Carmichael finished 1-2 at the plate while McFarlin and Adrian Lopez added an RBI apiece.
