Pike's 3-pointer gives BIC 2A-3 District title
Senior Austin Pike's three pointer with 2.2 seconds remaining lifted Buffalo Island Central to a thrilling 73-70 come from behind victory over Earle in the finals of the 2A-3 District Tournament Monday night, Feb. 23, in Lepanto.
BIC trailed 70-67 with 25 seconds remaining before sophomore guard Trey DePriest buried a three pointer to draw the Mustangs even, 70-all. Earle misfired on its next possession, and the Mustangs grabbed the rebound at the 12 second mark, setting up Pike's game winning bucket.
BIC led 18-16 after the first quarter before taking a 34-32 edge into the dressing room at intermission. The Bulldogs outscored the Mustangs 21-13 in the third period to grab a 53-47 advantage heading into the final frame.
Pike celebrated his 18th birthday with a double-double, scoring 27 points while snaring 24 rebounds. Pike also blocked six shots and dished out five assists on the night. DePriest also had a big night, pumping in 26 points for the Mustangs. Seth Eatmon scored 10, Alan Carmichael had six while Cory Turner chipped in four.
Tevin Scott led Earle with 17 points while Gerry Bohanon and Jalen Black added 13 and 10 points respectively.
Pike was named to the 2A-3 All-Conference team, and was joined by teammates Alan Carmichael and Seth Eatmon.
