Opal McCowan, 87, of Rivervale, Ark., passed from this life on Tuesday Feb. 24, 2015, in Jonesboro. She was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Stonewall, Ark., to Charles and Ida Mannon Nelson. Mrs. McCowan was a member of Rivervale Baptist Church and she retired from Lane's Nursing Home after working there for many, many years. Some of the things that she loved to do was working in her church, fishing, embroidery, flower gardening, bird watching and cooking for friends and family.
Mrs. McCowan is preceded in death by her husband: Bond McCowan, her parents, a son: Kenneth Allen McCowan, a daughter: Janice Darlene Hollands, a grandchild: Douglas Hollands, three brothers and three sisters.
Opal is survived by her three daughters: Barbara June Hanner (Lowell) of Evening Shade, Linda Sue Anderson (Lonnie) of Caraway and Betty Diane Davis (Eddie) of Rivervale; seven grandchildren: Timothy Hollands, Mitchell Hollands, Dewayne Hanner, Opal Barnes, Melissa Sanders, Michael Anderson and Vanessa Hall and 18 great- Grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto.
Funeral Service will be held Friday at 2:00 at Rivervale Baptist Church in Rivervale.
Interment will follow at Potter Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto.
