Clay Turner speaks at Westside Middle School.

Clay F. Turner, young author of Leachville, has been sharing his experience throughout the area as he has been the guest speaker at 10 appearances since his book "Lodesyia" was published in November.

Turners's goal is to encourage people of all ages. He also wants young people to know the importance of good communication skills and how writing, reading and speaking are skills they will use throughout their lives.

The largest group he has spoken to was 150 at Westside Middle School. He has also spoken at Harrisburg Middle School, BIC East Elementary, Health Wellness and Environmental Studies group; Harrisburg Rotary Club; BIC West Elementary; Alpha Nu Teacher Sorority; BIC High School Library Club; Valley View High School and Riverside East Elementary.

"It has been an honor to be invited to speak to these groups," Turner said. "I have enjoyed each and every one."

Turner, a sophomore at Arkansas State University, will be putting his speaking engagements on hold for the next few months as he travels to Spain to study through the ASU Honors Program. He will be joining 11 other students as they travel to Lanjaron, Spain. Among the subjects he will be studying aboard will be Spanish and Western Art. Among the scheduled travels he will visit Madrid and Barcelona.

"This is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to the experience," Turner said. "Having my book published and studying in Spain will make this year very hard to top."

Turner is a 2013 high school graduate of Buffalo Island Central. He is majoring in political science at ASU. He hopes to go on to law school and pursue a political career. His future plans include public service.

His goal has always been to help others through public service and he is well on his way.

Lodesyia is the first book in a series planned by Turner. He is well into the first draft of the second book in the series.

"This has been a lot of fun and I have enjoyed sharing it with students throughout the area," Turner said. "It is estimated it takes two years for an author to have a following and hopefully by the time I am a senior I will have a following to continue with me through the series and other endeavors."

Lodesyia is available at Monette and Manila Farmers Market, or online from Amazon and Create Space. The book can be ordered direct by email at clay.turner@smail.astate.edu.

Turner said he is looking forward to more speaking engagements when he returns from Spain. The experience will give him even more to share with his audiences.
