The Manila School board, on Superintendent Pam Castor's recommendation, unanimously voted Thursday, Jan. 22, to hire Mackenzie Willyerd-Onnen as school nurse.
Board members present were Jeremy Jackson, president; Brandon Veach, vice president; Tracey Reinhart, secretary, Danny Robbins, Tommy Wagner and Dean Tucker. Board member Johnny McCain was absent.
Board member Veach made a motion to extend Superintendent Castor's contract through the 2016-2017 school year. The vote was approved 5-1 with Wagner casting the no vote.
Following the approval of the minutes and financial review, the board approved two calendar proposals to be sent to the teachers for a vote. The proposals will come back to the board for final approval at the next meeting. Castor said there are a few differences on holidays and Thanksgiving break days but both include the required 178 days.
The board voted unanimously on the Continuity of Operations Procedure to go to manual procedures if the system is down.
Castor said she had received a request to use the award money going to the elemetnary and middle schools to purchase computers. There would be 26 for the elementary and 26 for the middle school. Board members approved the request as presented.
Superintendent Castor recommended the district assume operation for the elementary concession and sports. The board voted unanimously to accept her recommendation.
