Lions, Lady Lions fall to Osceola

Osceola put together a second half rally to post a 63-56 come from behind victory over Manila Friday night in 3A-3 conference basketball action.

The host Lions grabbed a slim 11-10 edge after the opening quarter and stretched their lead to 29-24 at the half. The Seminoles fought back and pulled even at 38-38 after three periods of play. Osceola outscored Manila 25-18 in the stanza period to secure the win.

Tevin James burned the nets for a game high 24 points to lead the Seminoles. Ladarian Bradford added 13. Osceola struggled from the foul line, hitting just 9-29 attempts.

Caleb Reinhart topped Manila with 21 points while Thomas Davis added 13. Seth Grissom scored eight, Patrick Tanner had six, Matthew May tallied five while Jake Helton chipped in three. Manila made 13-25 free throws and drilled six three pointers.

In junior high action, the Seminoles slipped past the Lions 49-45. The two teams battled to a 12-12 draw after the first period before Manila took a 20-19 edge into the dressing room at the half. Osceola took control in the third quarter to grab a 39-30 lead heading into the final frame.

Steven Fowler paced the Seminoles with 17 points while Jonathan Stevenson added 16.

Joel Burrow led Manila with 16 points. Chris Carruth scored 12 while Brock Birmingham dropped in 10 points. Logan Hamilton netted three while Dalton Hitchcock and Annan Garrett chipped in two points apiece.

Manila returns to action Tuesday night, traveling to Piggott to take on the Mohawks in a 3A-3 conference matchup. The Lions will close out the week with another conference tilt when they play host to Rivercrest Friday night.

Lady Lions

The Lady Lions dropped a 53-31 decision Thursday night at Osceola. Imani Fletcher led the Lady Seminoles with 16 points while Jimmyiah Allen added 15 more.

Taylor Harmon paced Manila with 12 points.

The Lady Lions ran away with the junior high contest, posting a 43-12 win over Osceola.

Manila will host Piggott in conference action Monday night before closing the week Thursday night with a road trip to Wilson to take on Rivercrest in another 3A-3 conference tilt.
