Earle hands BIC first conference loss

Earle spoiled Buffalo Island Central's homecoming festivities and handed the Mustangs their first 2A-3 conference loss of the season with a convincing 90-60 victory Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.

Earle (13-4, 5-1 2A-3) got a huge night from Marcus Brown, who pumped in a game high 33 points. Cortez Banks and Elijah Dunn poured in 18 and 13 points respectively as the Bulldogs pulled even with BIC in the loss column of the conference standings. Earle finished the night hitting 16-23 foul shots while draining eight three pointers on the evening.

Earle took control early, running to a 20-7 lead after the first period, and held a 40-29 advantage at the half. The Bulldogs led 62-52 entering the fourth quarter and outscored BIC 28-8 in the final frame to secure the victory.

Austin Pike recorded a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Trey DePriest scored 17 points. Cory Turner tallied eight, Alan Carmichael netted six, Dax Hurst contributed three while Juan Castillos chipped in two points. BIC connected on 16-24 free throws and hit four three pointers.

The Mustangs began the week with a 74-57 victory over Rector Tuesday night at the MAC. Seth Eatmon topped BIC with 26 points. Austin Pike chipped in 16 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out eight assists while Trey DePriest added 10 points. Cory Turner grabbed nine boards.

Lawson Ford paced Rector with 20 points while Nick Hardin added 10.

In junior high action, Earle sent BIC to its first loss of the season, trouncing the Mustangs 69-39. Tyreece Elmore led the Bulldogs with 22 points while O'Joshua Bunton added 16.

BIC (18-1, 7-1 2A-3) was led by Andrew McFarlin's 18 points. Miles Gifford had eight, Canon Walling scored four, Chayse Carmichael netted three while Blaine Wildy, Kaleb Dublin and Brady Clark chipped in two points apiece.

The junior Mustangs routed Rector 60-18 Tuesday night, putting four players in double figures. Gifford led BIC with 13 points, Walling scored 12, McFarlin tallied 11 while Dublin pitched in 10.

BIC will turn its attention to Riverside Tuesday night when the Mustangs play host to the Rebels in a key 2A-3 conference battle. The Mustangs will close the week Saturday when they play host to Crowley's Ridge Academy.

Lady Mustangs

Buffalo Island Central's Lady Mustangs improved to 14-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play with a pair of victories last week. The Mustangs eased past Rector 36-32 Monday night before defeating Earle 44-30 Thursday night at the MAC.

Karoline Thomas and Hannah Poe scored 11 points apiece in BIC's win over Earle. Bailey Owens and Blaire Wildy grabbed eight and seven rebounds respectively.

Poe's four clutch free throws in the closing seconds helped BIC hold off Rector. Thomas and Madison Greathouse led the Lady Mustangs with 10 and nine points respectively. Matison Dean topped the Lady Cougars with 10 points.

In junior high action, BIC defeated Rector 41-11 as Heather Sipes scored eight points. The Lady Mustangs fell to Earle, 49-22. Sipes led BIC (8-8, 2-6 2A-3) with 16 points.

The Lady Mustangs will return to the hard court Monday night when they clash with rival Riverside. BIC will close the week with a road trip Thursday night to Armorel.
