Mustangs give Taylor 700th career victory

Buffalo Island Central gave Head Coach Bill Taylor his 700th career coaching win with a 59-45 victory over Marked Tree Tuesday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex. The victory also kept BIC on top of the 2A-3 conference standings with a perfect 6-0 mark.

Alan Carmichael led BIC in scoring with 14 points. Austin Pike had another big night, contributing a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The senior guard also blocked nine shots while handing out seven assists on the evening. Seth Eatmon had 13 points, Cory Turner chipped in 10 while Dax Hurst added nine.

BIC jumped to a 20-4 lead after the opening quarter and took a 33-25 advantage into the half. Marked Tree fought back in the third period and pulled to within 45-40, before the Mustangs put the game away in the final frame.

D'Angelo Griffin topped Marked Tree with 15 points. Terry Carter pumped in 12 points while adding 11 rebounds.

In junior high action, the Mustangs remained unbeaten on the season with a hard fought 47-45 win over the Indians. Canon Walling paced BIC with 17 points while Chayse Carmichael and Andrew McFarlin added 15 and 11 points respectively.

Markel Perry had 12 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and five steals for the Indians, while Paul Coleman chipped in 12 points.

BIC traveled to Pangburn Friday night and came away with a 71-57 victory over Rose Bud in the Pangburn Classic. Dax Hurst drilled eight three pointers and finished with 25 points to lead BIC (9-4) in scoring. Alan Carmichael scored 12 points and snared nine rebounds while Austin Pike finished with nine points, 24 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Rose Bud's Blake Serrell scored a game high 28 points.

The Mustangs will return to action Friday, Dec. 26, in the Northeast Arkansas Invitational Tournament at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro. Second seeded BIC will open tournament play against 15th seeded Maynard. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
