Buffalo Island Central School Board recognizes student achievements
Buffalo Island Central School board recognized several students at the Dec. 9 meeting for outstanding accomplishments.
Students were recognized recently at the Journal Education Association Conference held in Washington, D.C. Greydon Williams and Camden Metheny received superior awards for photography. There were only four superior award presented. Jonna Perez received honorable mention award in the first year photography division.
The senior girls basketball team was congratulated for winning the White County Invitational Tournament.
Special congratulations went to the West Elementary and the Junior High School for being recognized in the top 10 percent for academic achievement in Arkansas Schools.
Board member Scott Colbert made a motion to amend a recommendation by Superintendent Gaylon Taylor to issue bonuses to certified staff, principals and non-certified employees. It was amended to include the superintendent. All certified employees will receive $500 and non-certified employees will receive $400. The bonuses will be added to the December checks.
The board passed a motion to issue contracts to Justin Wildy Farms and Gordon Miller Farms on a year-by-year contract basis for farmland owned by the district. Both contracts are based upon the district receiving 25 percent of crop production.
The January board meeting was set for Jan. 12.
