Injuries continued to mount for the Manila Lady Lions, who were already playing without the services of junior starting forward Lauren Woody. Senior Kailen Shelton suffered a knee injury during Manila's 53-49 loss at the hands of Gosnell Monday night at home. The absence of Woody and Shelton, coupled with foul problems, left the Lady Lions shorthanded in the fourth quarter, as Manila was forced to play with only four players on the court.

Despite the handicap, the Lady Lions hung tough and tied the game 49-49 in the closing minutes before the Lady Pirates scored the last four points to gain the victory.

Manila led 19-13 after the opening quarter before Gosnell rallied to take a 36-32 halftime lead. The Lady Lions closed the gap to one point, 42-41, entering the final period of play.

Lady Lion Taylor Harmon (12) shoots for two of her 14 points Tuesday night in senior high basketball action against Cedar Ridge.

Taylor Harmon led Manila with a game high 26 points. Hannah Teague scored five while Shelton, Hannah McQueen, Heather Hollis and Jordyn Wheeler all netted four points apiece. Courtney Scott chipped in two points for the Lady Lions, who hit 12-19 foul shots and canned five three pointers on the evening.

Brook Hill and Lauren Rogers paced Gosnell with 11 points each. The Lady Pirates connected on 19-32 free throws and drained four treys.

Manila dropped a 60-36 decision Tuesday night at home against Cedar Ridge. The Lady Timberwolves bolted to a 22-6 lead after the first break and held a 35-20 advantage at intermission. Cedar Ridge took a 49-25 lead into the final frame.

Harmon topped Manila with 14 points while Wheeler chipped in 11 more. Hollis tallied five, Teague contributed four while McQueen chipped in two for the Lady Lions.

Cheyenne Brooks led Cedar Ridge with 20 points while Liz Henderson added 19.

In junior high action, Gosnell defeated Manila 39-23.

Jordan Tyler led Manila with 13 points while Alyssa Smith and Meg Gifford had three points apiece. Courtney Merritt and Jalyn Cates finished with two points each.

Manila plays host to Hughes Monday night before participating in the Gerald Jennings Tournament beginning this week at Gosnell.
