Lady Rebels defeat Gosnell, lose buzzer beater at Brookland
Riverside's Lady Rebels rolled past Gosnell 71-44 Monday night at Lake City before absorbing a heartbreaking 43-40 defeat at the hands of Brookland Thursday night on the road.
Haven Robertson hit 10-11 foul shots on her way to a 24 point, eight rebound performance in Riverside's 27 point victory over the Lady Pirates. Gattlin Hale contributed 12 points while Natalie Milligan had a big night, scoring 11 points, snaring nine rebounds while dishing out six assists. Ashlyn Snyder tallied nine, Chelsea Nichols netted six, Hattie Milligan scored four while Megan Davidson pitched in three. Skylar Kauke added two points. Riverside connected on six three pointers and drilled 15-20 foul shots.
Amanda Wright led Gosnell with 12 points.
Riverside was tied 40-40 with just seconds remaining against Brookland, but a Lady Rebel turnover gave the host team one last possession. Lady Bearcat Menley Long hit a three pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift Brookland to the win.
Robertson and Kauke paced Riverside with 10 points apiece. Kauke also grabbed eight rebounds. Rachel Gramling topped Brookland with 11 points.
In junior high action, Riverside blasted Gosnell 52-14. The Lady Rebels stormed to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and held a whopping 49-4 advantage at the half.
Bailey Fisher led Riverside with 18 points. Briley Douglas tallied nine, Carson Smith netted seven, Mallory Felton had five, Hannah Shinall and Brittney Sain contributed four points apiece while Cayci Daniels and Lexi Hall chipped in three and two points respectively.
The Lady Rebels (5-2) return to the hard court Monday night when they open 2A-3 conference play against defending champion Marmaduke on the road. Riverside plays host to Buffalo Island Central Thursday night at Lake City.
