Lady Lions open season with two wins
Manila's Lady Lions kick-started the 2014-2015 basketball season with a pair of victories last week. Manila pulled off a come from behind 55-40 victory over Marked Tree Monday night on the road before outlasting Harrisburg 64-61 Thursday night in the Lady Lions' home opener.
Manila trailed Marked Tree 14-6 after one period of play, before rallying to tie the game 21-21 at the half. The Lady Lions pulled away to a 41-35 lead after three quarters and increased their margin in the final frame.
Kailen Shelton led three Lady Lions in double figures, scoring a game high 21 points. Taylor Harmon and Lauren Woody added 15 and 10 points respectively. Lexi Perry led the Lady Indians with a double-double, scoring 19 points while grabbing 13 boards. Dez Reel added 10 points for Marked Tree.
The Lady Lions held an eight point lead entering the fourth quarter before holding off Harrisburg Thursday night. Kailen Shelton pumped in 27 points to lead Manila while Taylor Harmon and Heather Hollis added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Keely Edwards led Harrisburg with 19 points, Peyton Craft scored 17 while Emily Armstrong chipped in 12.
Manila will return to action Monday night, hosting Ridgefield Christian, before playing host to Nettleton Thursday night.
