Yellowjackets outlast Mustangs 68-56
Bay withstood a huge night from Austin Pike to subdue the Mustangs 68-56 in senior boys basketball action Friday night before a loud and boisterous crowd at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
Pike pumped in 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets overcame a one point halftime deficit to gain the victory over their old foe.
Bay held a 13-11 lead after the opening quarter before falling behind by a point at the half. The 'Jackets rallied in the third period, outscoring the Mustangs 15-9 to take a 46-41 advantage into the final frame.
Colton Watson and Taylor Layne poured in 24 points apiece to lead the Yellowjackets. Layne helped secure the win by nailing 14-15 free throw attempts, including a perfect nine straight in the fourth quarter. The Yellowjackets connected on three treys and finished 21-27 from the foul stripe.
Alan Carmichael scored nine for the Mustangs, Seth Eatmon tallied six, Dax Hurst netted three while Cory Turner and Juan Castillo finished with two points apiece. The Mustangs connected on 19-26 free throws and made five three pointers.
In junior high action, BIC defeated Bay 50-33. Abraham Lopez topped the Mustangs with 17 points while Andrew McFarlin added 16 more.
BIC's junior high captured the Jack Moore Classic Saturday afternoon at Valley View with a 53-39 victory over Marion in the title game. Andrew McFarlin paced the Mustangs with 22 points. McFarlin's 12 point effort led BIC past Valley View 30-27 in the semifinal game.
BIC is scheduled to travel to Earle Tuesday night to open 2A-3 conference action, before heading to Lake City to take on archrival Riverside Friday night.
