Lady Mustangs fall to Westside and Marmaduke
Buffalo Island Central took to the road last week and came home with a pair of defeats, dropping a 59-55 decision Monday night at Westside before falling in their 2A-3 conference opener to Marmaduke 68-42 Thursday night.
BIC (3-2, 0-1 2A-3) held a 13-8 lead over Westside after the first period, before watching the Lady Warriors storm back, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 28-4 in the second quarter to take a 36-17 halftime lead. BIC fought back in the third period to pull within 47-35 entering the final frame. BIC drew even closer in the fourth quarter before seeing their rally fall four points shy.
Hannah Poe led BIC, scoring all 19 of her points in the second half. Karoline Thomas and Blaire Wildy chipped in 13 points each for the Lady Mustangs.
Rachel Wilson paced Westside with 22 points while Kylie DeVries and Kristen Smith chipped in 14 and nine points respectively.
In junior high action, BIC squeezed past Westside 29-27. Heather Sipes led the Lady Mustangs with 11 points while Molly Hart pitched in 10. Kalifa Ford topped all scorers with 25 points for the Lady Warriors.
Sidnee Bopp, who inked a letter of intent to play college basketball at Western Kentucky University on Tuesday, poured in 30 points, grabbed seven boards and handed out six assists in Marmaduke's 68-42 victory over BIC Thursday night. Allison Hampton chipped in 11 points for the defending conference champions.
Bailey Owens led BIC with 12 points while Hannah Poe added 10.
BIC returns to action Monday night when they travel to Earle to take on the Lady Bulldogs, before challenging Riverside Thursday night at Lake City.
