Pike powers Mustangs to Season opening wins
Austin Pike poured in 50 points to lead Buffalo Island Central to a pair of victories in senior boys basketball action last week. Pike scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in BIC's 72-30 season opening victory over Ridgefield Christian Friday night at Leachville. The senior sharpshooter capped off the week with his second 25 point effort, to go along with 10 rebounds, in leading the Mustangs to a 64-30 win Saturday against Abundant Life in Little Rock.
BIC jumped to a 17-4 lead over Ridgefield Christian after the first quarter and held a commanding 42-9 advantage at the half. The Mustangs took a 61-21 bulge into the fourth period. Seth Eatmon also hit double digits for BIC, scoring 11 points, while Adrian Lopez added five steals. Will Scholtens topped the Eagles with nine points.
In BIC's win over Abundant Life, Pike also added five assists and five steals. Eatmon chipped in 14 points for the 2-0 Mustangs.
In junior high action, BIC claimed a 47-12 homecoming victory over Ridgefield Christian Thursday night, before disposing of Abundant Life 45-5 Saturday afternoon.
BIC will return to the hard court Friday night, playing host to Bay in a nonconference matchup at the Mustang Athletic Complex.
The Junior Mustangs will begin play in the Jack Moore Invitational Tournament at Valley View Monday afternoon against Harrisburg.
