Rebel roundballers open basketball season with clean sweep over Armorel

Riverside opened its 2014-2015 basketball season with a 60-36 victory at Armorel Friday night. The Lady Rebels also began their new season with a win, defeating the Lady Tigers 46-15.

Riverside Cheerleaders kept the spirit up during the four games at Armorel.

Riverside outscored the host Tigers 26-7 in the fourth quarter, breaking open a close game. The Rebels led just 17-14 at the half, and took a slim 34-29 advantage into the fourth period before pulling away for the victory.

Kollin Stone opened his senior campaign with a double-double, scoring 20 points while snaring 10 rebounds. Junior Luke Baker also recorded a double-double, tallying 16 points while grabbing 10 boards. Sophomore guard Gavin Stone also hit double digits, scoring 16 points.

Zack Gray led the Tigers with 13 points.

Senior guards Ashlyn Snyder and Chelsea Nichols pumped in 15 points apiece to lead the Lady Rebels past Armorel. Riverside bolted to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter and held a commanding 32-6 advantage at intermission. The Lady Rebels took a 42-11 lead into the fourth quarter.

In junior high action, Riverside posted a 39-11 victory behind Bailey Fisher's 22 point performance.

The Lady Rebels traveled to Brockwell Saturday to participate in the Izard County Consolidated Classic. Host ICC downed Riverside 40-34.

ICC held an 8-6 lead after one quarter, 17-14 at the half and took a slim 28-26 edge into the final frame.

Hattie Milligan led Riverside (1-1) with seven points.

The Lady Rebels will travel to Jonesboro Monday night to take on Ridgefield Christian in nonconference action. Riverside's boys and junior girls will open their home slate Tuesday night when Bay comes to Lake City.
