Caraway Council holds special meeting

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

The Caraway City Council held a special meeting Monday, Oct. 13, and voted unanimously to purchase a new police vehicle and fire truck pending inspection of the vehicles. Tuesday, Oct. 14, the city decided not to purchase either vehicle.

The Caraway Police Department received a grant for $10,000 to purchase a vehicle and was looking at a 2012 Dodge Charger. They will continue to look for a police vehicle.

The Caraway Fire Department had found a 1999 quick attack fire truck but had not seen the truck in person. During the meeting Fire Chief Scottie Browning called Fosters Motor Company so the council could ask questions over the phone about the truck.

The council negotiated the price from $29,500 to $26,000. But with only pictures to look at and not having seen the truck in person the council approved appropriating $26,000 of ACT 833 funds to purchase the truck pending inspection. The city did not purchase the truck.
