BIC boys claim 2A District golf title

Riverside and Manila golfers join BIC in qualifying for state tournament

Buffalo Island Central ran away from the rest of the field in the 2A District Golf Tournament Monday afternoon at the Turkey Mountain Golf Club in Horseshoe Bend. The Mustangs, who qualify for the Oct. 8 State Tournament at Thunder Bayou in Blytheville, fired a team total 255 to finish a whopping 42 strokes better than second place Salem.

Ryan Stuck led the Mustangs with a round of 82 while teammates Dax Hurst and Miles Gifford carded scores of 86 and 87 respectively. Andrew McFarlin posted a 100.

Riverside finished third in the seven team field, led by Larry Tilley's 87. Cannon Smith shot a 102 while Matthew Turner added a 117 for the Rebels. Tilley and Smith both qualify for the 2A State Tournament.

Rector's Kade Scott fired a four over par 77 to clam medalist honors.

In girls action, Salem outlasted BIC 162-167 to claim the team title. Lady Mustang Ashley Field posted a 49 to bring home medalist honors. BIC's Kensie Walker and Jona Carmichael tallied rounds of 59.

Riverside's Brittney Ditto posted a round of 70 for the Lady Rebels and also qualified as an individual for the state tournament, which will be played Sept. 29 at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.

Manila's Taylor Adams shot a 128 at the Sugar Creek Country Club Monday afternoon at Piggott in the 3A District Tournament to qualify as an individual golfer in the Class 3A State Tournament to be held at the Lions Club Golf Course Sept. 30 in Smackover.
