Manila Lions Club has a new meeting place. Club members meet at noon each Wednesday in the former coaches' office located at the northwest corner of the junior high gymnasium at Manila School.

President Terry Carr and the group discussed the upcoming chili cook-off to be held Saturday, Nov. 1.

Forms will be ready for chili teams and booths. The senior division will be awarded cash prizes with first place $500; second place $300 and third place $200. The junior division will receive trophies for first, second and third place. A showmanship and People's Choice trophies will be presented.

Rental fee for the booths will be $30. Chili entry fees will be $20 for the senior team and no entry fee for the junior teams.

The third annual 5K Chili Pepper Run will be held on this date.

Lions Tony Crowell and Wendell Poteet are serving as co-chairmen for the events.

Carr encouraged Lions to check with the sponsors for the chili cook-off; encourage members to attend the meetings; and invite new members to join the Lions.

"As soon as the chili cook-off is over we will need to start selling pancake tickets," Carr said. "The pancake supper will be the first Saturday in December. We will be busy throughout the year."
