Wearing red for Kayla

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
Several 10th grade classmates of Kayla Griffin are pictured wearing red. The student body, teachers and staff all wore red on Tuesday for Kayla as she underwent heart surgery.

Kayla Griffin, 10th grade student at Buffalo Island Central, underwent surgery last week at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis to correct a hole in her heart. Her fellow classmates, student body and staff wore red to school on Tuesday, the day of her surgery, in her honor.

Lexie Ray, Kensie Walker, Michaela Long, Morgan Tibbs and Madison Nowlin, all 10th grade students, helped get the red day organized. They are looking forward to her return to BIC High School and the basketball court.

Principal Randy Rose made the announcement to the classrooms when he received a call informing Kayla's teachers and friends the surgery was over and she had done well.
