Area golf teams post victories on the links
Buffalo Island Central, Manila and Riverside all posted golf victories last week with the Mustangs winning a pair of matches Monday and Tuesday while both the Lions and Rebels picked up wins on Thursday.
The Mustang boys and girls completed a two-day sweep, defeating Rivercrest, Corning and Manila Monday afternoon at the Big Lake Country Club before downing Piggott and Armorel Tuesday afternoon in Piggott.
BIC's Daniel Carmichael fired a 43 to lead the Mustangs to a team total 131 and a five-shot victory over Rivercrest Monday afternoon. Ryan Stuck and Hunter Costner carded 44's as the top three scores from each team were counted in the final totals.
Miles Gifford and Andrew McFarlin shot 45's, Dax Hurst put together a round of 47, Evan Sanders posted a 49, Trevor Couch shot a 50 while Canon Walling finished with a 52 for the Mustangs.
Joel Burrow led the Lion golfers with a round of 43 while teammates Gage Owen and Burch Milano shot 51's. Alex Richard carded a 55.
Colt golfer Preston Nichols fired a two-over par 38 to claim medalist honors on the afternoon.
The Lady Mustangs claimed a 10-shot victory over Corning. Ashley Field was the medalist on the day, leading BIC with a round of 47. Jonna Carmichael shot a 57 while Kensie Walker posted a 63.
Taylor Adams, playing as an individual, finished the day with a round of 56 for Manila's Lady Lions.
Dax Hurst fired a two-over 38 to lead the Mustangs to a 16-shot victory Tuesday afternoon over Piggott. Ryan Stuck carded a four-over par 40 while Daniel Carmichael came home with a round of 43 as BIC finished with a count-three score of 121.
Evan Sanders and Andrew McFarlin shot 45's. Miles Gifford carded a 49, Trevor Couch posted a 50 while Hunter Costner and Canon Walling shot 52's.
Leyton Clark claimed medalist honors with a one-under par 35 for the third place Armorel Tigers, who shot a team score 150.
Jonna Carmichael fired a 48 to lead the Lady Mustangs to a three-shot win over Armorel in girl's action. Piggott finished third.
Ashley Field carded a 53 while Kensie Walker posted a 57 as the Lady Mustangs shot a team total 158.
Manila slipped past Rivercrest 134-135 Thursday afternoon at Osceola. Burch Milano fired a 43 while Gage Owen and Joel Burrow shot rounds of 44 and 47 respectively to lead the Lions to the win.
Taylor Adams played as an individual for the Lady Lions, and claimed medalist honors, firing a round of 40.
Riverside, led by Larry Tilley's two-over par 38, took home first place in a multi-team match Thursday afternoon.
Matthew Turner and Cannon Smith shot 50's as the Rebels carded a 138 team total, two shots better than second place Armorel.
Armorel's Leyton Clark and Rector's Kade Scott both fired one-over par 37's to share medalist honors on the day.
Brittany Ditto shot a 61 for the Lady Rebels as an individual.
