Donald Melton Brooks

Donald "Donnie" Melton Brooks, age 81, of Manila died Friday August 8, 2014, at his home. Born Nov. 4, 1932, at Manila, he was the son of the late Clarence and Zephyr Thomas Brooks and had been a lifelong Manila resident. A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he worked many years for the former Crompton Manufacturing Company in Osceola, and later retired from Milwaukee Tool Company in Blytheville. Donnie was member of the Masonic Lodge #588 in Manila where he had served as past master.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sons, James Dale Brooks, Donald Wayne Brooks, and Ronald Brooks, three brothers, Jimmy Dale Brooks, James Brooks, and C.J. Brooks, and a sister, May Strain.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Peggy Sue Bibbs Brooks of the home; one son, Larry Brooks and wife Christie of Minier, Ill.; a daughter, Pam Cheadle of Manila; a brother, Carl Brooks and wife Bertha of Manila; a sister, Pat Pannell of Blytheville. He also leaves three grandsons; Lynard Brooks, James Brooks and Jay Allen Brooks, two granddaughters, April Stone and Rachel Cheadle, and three great-grandchildren, Kroston Anthony Diffee, Swayzee Stone and McKenzie Brooks. Donnie also leaves a special niece Jimma Brooks, and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
